A Clearer Training Plan, From the First Lesson to the Next Instructor
Our new Training tools bring school syllabi, student preparation, lesson records and progress into one connected Part 61 workflow.
A student finishes a lesson knowing what went well, what still needs practice and what to prepare next. The instructor responsible for that student can see the same picture. That is the working relationship behind the new Training tools on FAA Flight Schools.
Schools can now connect their Part 61 course plans with student enrollments, lesson records and progress. The aim is straightforward: make the school's training plan easier to teach, easier to follow and easier to hand over when another authorized instructor becomes responsible for a student.
Your school's syllabus, organized for everyday teaching
Build a course around your own stages, lessons, exercises, objectives and completion standards. FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) headings provide a task reference pool, while your school determines how those tasks fit into its instruction.
A published course becomes a saved revision. Enrolling a student connects that student to a specific published plan, so later curriculum editing does not quietly change the syllabus they have been following. Your team can develop the next revision while retaining the earlier course and its history.
That distinction matters for an instructor returning after time away, an administrator answering a student's question, or a school improving its lesson sequence between enrollments. Everyone can identify which plan belongs to the student in front of them.
Progress that tells you what to work on
A completed appointment does not tell the whole story of a student's learning. Training records support repeatable lesson attempts, task-level results, instructor notes and actual time, giving practice its proper place in the record.
- Unassessed identifies a task without a current assessed result.
- Needs practice makes a current unsuccessful result visible.
- PASS records an explicit instructor result for the task.
Progress reflects the latest finalized task evidence. Repeating a task in several lessons does not multiply its contribution, and a high numerical grade cannot hide an unassessed or unsuccessful required task. Advisory grades remain separate from task results.
The practical benefit is a more useful conversation: which specific skills deserve attention next? These summaries support instructor judgment; they do not issue endorsements or determine legal eligibility for a practical test.
Keep curriculum changes deliberate
When a reviewed ACS update affects a school course, authorized curriculum managers have a way to respond while retaining the original plan. A compatible update can be acknowledged for the published course. Changes that call for a replacement syllabus can be developed in a separate draft, with an explicit decision about whether an enrolled student continues on the existing plan or transitions to the replacement.
Earlier instruction remains part of the history. An update to the source material does not silently rewrite a student's completed lessons or move the whole school onto a new course.
A shared picture for students and instructors
Students can review their own assigned syllabus, lesson preparation, finalized feedback and training history. Authorized instructors can use the earlier observations and remaining practice needs to plan the next session with context.
A readable training-history export brings the plan, dates and recorded instruction together for an authorized reader. School management and instructional responsibilities remain distinct, so access follows each person's role in that student's training.
School Training tools are available to authorized users through the school's active Pro access. Students do not need a separate personal Pro subscription to view their own assigned training and final history.
